Project Homeside Farm
Location Bossingham, on the outskirts of Canterbury
Budget £75,000
Client Private Client
Homeside Farm is a mid terrace house on a traditional residential development in the village of Bossingham, near Canterbury. The location is recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The clients wanted to open up their property and had a vision for a pitched roof single storey extension to the rear of the house, as well as structural alterations to provide an open plan kitchen, living, and dining room.
We introduced a glazed gable detail to the extension which improved the level of natural daylight within the home, while also being an impressive statement feature. The fully-vaulted ceiling expands the room, avoiding the long narrow space which is often the result of extensions to mid terrace homes. Although it is open plan, we subtly defined each space through the use of single steps, to create different floor levels. This also enabled us to make the extension level with the garden, so that when the bifold doors are opened it creates a functional inside-outside space.
For this project we produced concept proposals for the clients, before submitting the planning application for the chosen design. This included a Design and Access Statement due to its location in an AONB. The next stage was supplying the building regulation drawings and specification for the client to pass onto the Contractor. As a part of this process we collaborated with both the structural engineer and the interior designer Laughland Jones, to ensure every aspect of the design had been considered.
Client testimonial
“PBA’s attention to detail and commitment to our extension was unwavering. They offered a full design and specification service for our extension, got us the planning permission we required plus drew up the necessary building regulations. The design details that they thought of had little effect on budget, but made all the difference with the end result. We highly recommend PBA as a thoughtful, passionate architectural practice who will strive to give you what you want and more.”
